about me

I am a student based out of Massachusetts in the U.S., although I do travel around the Northeast for fieldwork and conferences. I'm originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but I haven't been back in 4+ years. I miss the desert dearly, but I doubt I'd ever consider moving back out unless I got a really good offer — the lack of seasons and the weather and the people and the cost of living are all just not ideal.

In terms of academia, my main interests lie in planetary geology and "hard rock" geology (igneous/metamorphic petrology, structural geology, etc.). I think I could enjoy just about any subfield of geology given the chance, but I must admit that most water-related geology does absolutely nothing for me. Believe me, I've tried to get into hydrology and coastal processes and what have you, but I just can't get myself to care about it.
I also don't care much for petroleum geology (goodbye, lucrative career opportunities...), but that's largely for moral reasons. The temptation to give in and sell out to big oil for a few years to pay off my (frankly ridiculous) student loans is absolutely still there though, believe you me.
